HISTORY
Key accomplishments by the Sun Prairie Area New Church Development Commission through June 1, 2006:
Funds Development
- Written grants for $150,000 to help fund the mission and program of the new church;
- Obtained a commitment of $50,000 in support from The John Knox Presbytery;
- Raised $20,000 from neighboring congregations with more pledged;
- Obtained a pledge of land for the new congregation valued at over $1 million.
Mission Interpretation
- Presbytery interpreters have met with the leadership of every area congregation at least twice to interpret and solicit support;
- Commission members have met with zoning boards to help clear the way for the rezoning of the pledged church parcel;
- Commission members meet quarterly with a group from the target area expressing interest and support in the new congregation.
- Developed a web site.
Research and Planning
- Completed a demographic study of the target area;
- Received training in new church development methodology from the Church Multiplication Training Center;
- Established a unique plan for a "development network" to ensure ongoing support plus provide opportunities for skill development as needed by the organizing pastor.
